Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the company is still far from achieving recursive self-improvement in artificial intelligence. While researchers have begun integrating AI agents into the development process, the technology remains in its early stages.
Co-founder Sergey Brin noted that the Flash series and Gemini 4 models have already demonstrated capabilities in assisting their own development. Currently, engineers collaborate with these AI models to build subsequent generations of software.
As of April, 75% of new code at Google was generated by AI. Pichai emphasized that this metric is no longer the primary indicator of progress, as AI now influences nearly every segment of the codebase.
The upcoming Gemini 4 Argon model is designed to address complex programming challenges. Google reports that the frequency of software rollbacks due to bugs or system failures has decreased by one-third, signaling improvements in overall code quality.
