The Mac version of Perplexity Computer has introduced a new on-device mode. This feature allows the AI to execute tasks, including reasoning, planning, and file processing, directly on the user's hardware without requiring an internet connection.

Users can grant the application permission to access local files and interact with system apps such as Mail, Notes, Messages, and Numbers. Files are only uploaded to the cloud if the user explicitly approves the action.

The update is currently available to subscribers of the Pro, Max, and Enterprise tiers. At launch, the tool supports two local modes: Qwen 3.6 and PPLX Pro.

To utilize the on-device functionality, users must have a Mac equipped with Apple silicon. Additionally, the system requires a minimum of 36GB of unified memory to operate effectively.
