This feature, which allows users to adjust AI compute via a slider with four settings—Light, Standard, High, and Ultra—was rolled out between September 17 and September 21, 2026.
OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol on September 16, 2026, positioning it as a more affordable alternative to the GPT-6 Astra model, which launched on September 3, 2026. Perplexity integrated the new model into its interface within approximately 24 hours of its release, targeting routine queries that require speed and cost efficiency.
Effort Mode is currently available for web users, with support for mobile and desktop applications planned for the future. Perplexity has stated that model assignments across its presets will update automatically as new AI releases become available from providers like OpenAI.
