Paul Tudor Jones, a veteran hedge fund manager, predicts a difficult year for US stocks in 2027. He attributes this outlook to a significant increase in share supply, driven by major technology companies investing in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The investor highlighted potential IPOs and secondary offerings from companies like Anthropic and OpenAI, alongside recent activity from SpaceX, as key contributors to this market shift. He compared the current situation to the period between the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Jones stated that the current flow picture for the US stock market is the most negative observed since 2002. Consequently, he plans to maintain a short position throughout 2027, citing limited value and high valuations in the equity market.
Amid potential equity market stress, Jones noted that Bitcoin could serve as a hedge due to its fixed supply of 21 million coins. He contrasted this scarcity with the increasing supply of traditional assets and the annual production of gold.
Despite the potential for Bitcoin to act as a non-correlated asset, Jones acknowledged that its price remains tied to broader risk assets. A widespread market sell-off could still negatively impact the cryptocurrency, depending on investor behavior.
