Swiss retailer Otto’s is transitioning its entire logistics fleet to electric power by acquiring 22 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks. These vehicles will be based at the company’s headquarters in Sursee and will serve 140 store locations across Switzerland.
The eActros 600 models offer a range of approximately 500 kilometers. According to CEO Mark Ineichen, this capacity covers roughly 80 percent of the company’s daily transport routes. The trucks typically complete two to four routes per day before returning to the Sursee depot for charging.
The vehicle bodies were manufactured by the Swiss company Lanz+Marti, which utilized the eActros 600 chassis for all 22 units. The order also includes two-axle box trailers, allowing the trucks to operate as road trains.
Otto’s powers its charging infrastructure primarily through its own photovoltaic system located at the depot. Additionally, the company integrates electricity generated by solar installations at its various branch locations into its private power grid.
The broader European logistics sector is increasingly scaling electric fleet operations. Other notable developments include the Swiss firm Käppeli planning to introduce Tesla Semis in 2027, H.Essers adding 20 electric trucks from MAN and Mercedes-Benz, and Amazon receiving its first 27 eActros 600 units as part of a larger order exceeding 200 vehicles.
