Oracle has expanded its partnership with OpenAI, allowing customers to purchase access to models like Codex and ChatGPT Work directly through the Oracle Marketplace. This integration enables enterprises to pay for these AI tools using their existing Oracle Universal Credits, which are part of the company's prepaid consumption system.
This software distribution deal complements a larger infrastructure agreement established in July 2025. Under that contract, OpenAI committed to spending approximately $300 billion over five years to expand data center capacity in the US. The deal involves providing an additional 4.5 gigawatts of computing power, with payments scheduled to begin in 2027.
The infrastructure project is part of the broader Stargate initiative, which aims for a total investment of up to $500 billion to build 10 gigawatts of AI data center capacity. Despite some delays in site-specific plans in early 2026, such as the cancellation of expansions in Abilene, the overall financial commitment remains in place.
For Oracle, this move shifts its role from being solely a provider of raw computing power to acting as a distribution channel for OpenAI software. Investors are now monitoring the adoption of these models among enterprise clients, the progress of the Stargate buildout, and the anticipated revenue stream from the infrastructure contract starting in 2027.
