A developer optimized the Swift debounce mechanism by replacing the creation of a new Task for every input with a single persistent worker task. This approach reduced the average execution time of the emit method from 798 ns to 16 ns.

The initial implementation relied on creating and canceling tasks, which consumed significant resources. The optimized version maintains a state machine that updates the deadline and value without interrupting the worker task's sleep cycle.

Further performance gains were achieved by replacing NSRecursiveLock with os_unfair_lock and switching from ContinuousClock.Instant to UInt64 for deadline storage. These changes minimized overhead related to type metadata access and memory layout.

The developer utilized cross-module optimization (CMO) to allow the compiler to specialize generic functions. In tests, the refined prototype with CMO achieved a throughput of approximately 258 million calls compared to 16 million in the original implementation.

The experiments were conducted on October 13, 2026, using code from commit 990cf04. The testing process involved profiling Swift Runtime calls to identify bottlenecks in type metadata access and generic function specialization.
