The Union Alpha coding model launched on OpenRouter on September 16. Developed as a collaboration between OpenCode and OpenRouter, the system is designed to support agentic coding workflows, including writing, debugging, and iterating on code.
The model features a 262,144-token context window, allowing it to process approximately 200,000 words of input. It supports both text and image inputs, enabling the analysis of screenshots, diagrams, and UI mockups alongside code repositories.
During an initial preview period of approximately one week, the model is available for free. OpenRouter lists the service at $0, with a strict policy of zero data retention, meaning user prompts and completions are not stored or used for training.
OpenRouter acts as a routing layer for the model, which is operated by an anonymous third-party provider. The identity of the developers remains undisclosed, leading to community speculation regarding the origin of the technology.
