AMD has released FSR 4.1, which now supports Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, Xbox Series X and S consoles, and Ryzen AI Max, AI 9, and Z2 SoCs. The company achieved this compatibility by optimizing the neural network model to utilize INT8 shader hardware instead of the FP8 matrix acceleration found in newer Radeon 9000 cards. A specialized, lightweight version of the software has also been developed for handheld devices, reducing its size by more than half.
Testing on a Radeon RX 6900 XT using Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K Balanced mode indicates a performance cost of approximately 13% when using FSR 4. AMD claims this version provides improved image quality compared to FSR 3. Additionally, the update includes enhanced frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation and introduces FSR Ray Regeneration support, which is currently available in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
Users can access these features via the newly released Radeon 26.10.1 drivers, which also add support for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Final Fantasy Resonance. While PC users can download the drivers through the AMD Adrenalin application, owners of Xbox and Ryzen Z2-series handhelds must wait for manufacturer-specific firmware updates.
AMD has also announced plans to extend support for the Vulkan API to FSR 4.1 in the future. This addition is expected to benefit various games and console emulators.
