OpenAI is currently negotiating a new funding round aiming to secure $30 billion. The company is proposing a pre-money valuation of $1.4 trillion to potential investors, including sovereign wealth funds and long-only funds.
Existing backers SoftBank Group and Abu Dhabi-based MGX are reportedly in discussions to participate in this financing. Previous reports indicated that UAE funds have considered investments totaling up to $10 billion, with BlackRock and the University of California endowment also engaged in talks.
The move follows a March funding round that valued the company at $852 billion, meaning the new target represents a 64% increase. OpenAI is seeking this capital to cover infrastructure commitments and provide a financial buffer in case of delays to its planned 2027 IPO.
Market conditions remain challenging, as companies in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index have shed over $1.6 trillion in value recently. Several firms have paused or withdrawn their own listing plans, creating a competitive environment for capital as investors weigh the upcoming public debut of Anthropic.
