OpenAI is preparing to publish hundreds of AI-generated mathematical solutions on GitHub. The upcoming release will include formal proofs written in the Lean 4 language, which allows for computer-based verification of mathematical arguments.

This initiative follows an announcement from August 28, 2026, where the company disclosed that its AI model had solved over 100 longstanding open mathematical problems. Among these is the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize challenge, one of seven major problems designated by the Clay Mathematics Institute.

Previously, in August 2026, OpenAI released solutions to 10 open mathematical problems on GitHub, also using Lean 4. The company has not yet set a specific date for the new, larger release of results.

OpenAI is currently consulting with its Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence regarding the disclosure process. The decision to use GitHub instead of traditional academic journals has sparked debate among mathematicians regarding peer review and credit attribution.
