OpenAI has launched its latest AI models, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, which offer a 50% reduction in API costs compared to the previous GPT-5.6 versions. The company released the GPT-5.6 family in July 2026, meaning the new generation arrived less than three months later.

For GPT-6 Sol, the new pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, down from $4 and $20 respectively. This pricing structure allows a business spending $100 000 monthly on the previous model to potentially reduce costs to $50 000.

GPT-6 Luna is now priced at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. For comparison, the GPT-5.6 Luna model cost $0.20 for input and $1.20 for output tokens.

Beyond cost savings, OpenAI reports that both new models demonstrate lower hallucination rates than their predecessors. Additionally, GPT-6 Sol shows minor improvements in coding performance compared to the GPT-5.6 Sol model.
