OpenAI has introduced dots, a new generation of persistent AI agents designed to handle diverse user tasks. Unlike local solutions, each agent operates on its own dedicated cloud-based virtual PC hosted on OpenAI servers, which allows users to access the agent from any computer regardless of hardware specifications.
The agents are powered by the GPT-6 Astra model and feature an ecosystem of plugins that enables integration with over 4,000 software applications. Users can interact with their agents through the ChatGPT interface, SMS, messaging apps, or voice calls.
The company has begun rolling out access to dots for subscribers of Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise plans in supported regions. Users can currently create and customize their own agents, with future plans to support collaborative teams of multiple dots working simultaneously.
OpenAI is also providing limited preview access for corporate clients to specialized agents. These enterprise-grade dots can be configured with dedicated accounts and assigned specific organizational responsibilities, allowing users to monitor the agent's performance directly on its virtual cloud PC.
