OpenAI projects its revenue to grow from $36 billion in 2026 to $350 billion by 2030, with total revenue reaching $840 billion over that period. Despite this growth, the company anticipates spending $856 billion on computing resources and infrastructure, alongside an additional $262 billion in other operational costs.

The company forecasts a cumulative negative free cash flow of $278 billion between 2026 and 2030. This figure is an improvement over a previous projection of $305 billion made in May. These expenditures are driven by the costs associated with building data centers and infrastructure for training and deploying AI models.

OpenAI raised $122 billion in March, but current models suggest these funds could be exhausted by 2028. The company is currently in discussions for a new investment round, with potential investors considering a valuation of $1.2 trillion, while the company reportedly seeks an even higher figure.

OpenAI was previously planning an IPO for autumn 2026 and submitted confidential documents to the SEC in June. However, the company postponed the process, citing public concerns regarding AI risks. Meanwhile, competitors like Anthropic are expected to proceed with an IPO this autumn.
