OpenAI is evaluating plans to adapt its existing Codex and ChatGPT technologies for the personal AI agent market. Rather than developing new systems from scratch, the company aims to repurpose its current infrastructure to create a persistent assistant.
Competition in the sector has grown following recent product launches. In August 2026, SpaceXAI introduced Grok Bot, a cloud-based assistant integrated with Gmail and Google Calendar, available via the $30 per month SuperGrok subscription.
Meta released its mobile-focused agent, Muse, in September 2026, utilizing a freemium model. Meanwhile, the startup Instinct reported reaching 100 000 users as of September 2026, highlighting the rapid expansion of the personal AI agent category.
OpenAI has not yet announced a name or release date for its potential product. The company recently launched a public beta of its Agents API, which provides developers with tools to build autonomous workflows while OpenAI continues its internal development.
