OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging, a startup focused on AI-driven image enhancement. The deal values the company at $300 million, a significant increase from its $100 million valuation during a 2025 funding round. Neither company has provided an official statement regarding the acquisition terms or future integration plans.

Glass Imaging was established in 2019 by former Apple employees Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop. The company specializes in GlassAI technology, which aims to improve smartphone camera performance to match DSLR quality. Their software corrects optical aberrations, reduces noise, and recovers image details, outperforming traditional image signal processing pipelines.

The startup previously raised $20 million in a Series A round in May to scale its imaging solutions across various platforms. This followed a $9.3 million extended seed round in 2024 and an initial seed round in 2021. The technology is designed for implementation across a broad range of camera hardware.

OpenAI is reportedly developing a new hardware device in collaboration with former Apple designer Jony Ive. Reports from August suggest this device will be a portable smart speaker equipped with cameras and sensors to analyze its environment. The acquisition of Glass Imaging aligns with OpenAI's broader strategy to integrate advanced AI capabilities into physical hardware.
