A viral post on X claims that OpenAI and Synopsys have launched a chip design tool called GPT-Synopsys. As of September 30, 2026, neither company has confirmed the existence of such a product, and no official announcements regarding a joint launch have been made.
The confusion may stem from existing integrations. On November 15, 2023, Synopsys released Synopsys.ai Copilot, an assistant for chip design workflows that utilizes OpenAI models via Microsoft Azure. This tool allows engineers to leverage generative AI within electronic design automation software.
Synopsys continues to develop its AI capabilities. On July 27, 2026, the company introduced autonomous EDA workflows in collaboration with AMD and Microsoft. Additionally, in December 2025, Nvidia invested $2 billion in Synopsys to support the development of AI-powered chip design tools.
OpenAI is pursuing its own chip development initiatives, notably the Jalapeño project with Broadcom, which was presented at the Hot Chips 2026 conference. Currently, there is no verified link between OpenAI’s work with Broadcom and the AI initiatives led by Synopsys.
