Nvidia unveiled Isaac ROS 5.0 at the ROSCon conference in Toronto on September 22. The update introduces agentic development workflows, which function as AI-powered coding assistants specifically designed for robotics tasks.
The platform features new modular building blocks called Isaac agent skills. These tools address common challenges like perception model tuning, object pose estimation, and pick-and-place workflows.
Performance improvements include a new inference library for the FoundationPose model, which increases object tracking speeds by up to 5.5 times compared to previous versions.
The release supports the ROS 2 Lyrical distribution and runs on Ubuntu 24.04. It is available for free via GitHub and the Nvidia Isaac ROS Buildfarm APT repository.
Nvidia reports that nearly 1.3 million users leverage Isaac ROS. The platform now offers tighter integration with Jetson edge hardware to streamline the transition from prototyping to production.
