Nvidia has announced a $150 billion share buyback, marking the largest single repurchase authorization in corporate history. This move brings the company’s total remaining buyback authorization to $235 billion, surpassing the previous record of $110 billion set by Apple in 2024.

Following the announcement, Nvidia shares rose by approximately 2.8%, contributing to a year-to-date gain of 24%. The company currently holds a market capitalization between $5.4 trillion and $5.5 trillion, supported by strong cash flow driven by demand for AI chips.

In the first half of fiscal 2027, Nvidia executed $39.8 billion in buybacks. By the end of the July quarter, the company reported $22.44 billion in cash and cash equivalents. The new program is expected to be funded through fiscal 2028.

The company previously increased its buyback program by $80 billion in May 2026 and $60 billion in August 2025. These decisions align with the growth in hyperscaler AI infrastructure spending, which is projected by analysts to exceed $1.3 trillion by 2027.

CEO Jensen Huang noted that the company is navigating a significant platform shift toward AI. While the company maintains a strong financial position, it faces potential competition from custom AI chips developed by Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.
