Nvidia has announced an additional $150 billion share repurchase program, authorized on September 28, 2026. This brings the company's total buyback authorization to $235 billion, marking the largest single increase in corporate history.
The new authorization exceeds the previous record set by Apple in 2024 by approximately 36%. This initiative follows a previous $80 billion increase approved by Nvidia in May 2026, with the full program scheduled for execution through fiscal 2028.
Nvidia reported $22.44 billion in cash and equivalents at the end of the July 2026 quarter. CEO Jensen Huang attributed the funding for these repurchases to robust cash generation driven by sustained demand for AI and accelerated computing.
Following the announcement, Nvidia shares saw a daily increase of 2% to 2.8%. Prior to this news, the company's stock had risen approximately 20% to 24% year-to-date, though it has trailed behind competitors like AMD and Intel in 2026 performance.
The company aims to maintain earnings-per-share growth through share reduction as it faces competition in the data center GPU market from AMD, Intel, and custom silicon efforts by major hyperscalers including Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.
