In October, Norway recorded 15,725 new passenger car registrations, marking a 41 per cent increase compared to October 2025. According to the Norwegian Road Information Authority, this is the highest October figure in over 30 years. Electric vehicles accounted for 15,536 of these registrations, representing a 98.8 per cent market share.
The total number of registrations for the first ten months of the year is 5.2 per cent higher than in the same period of 2025. Following a slow start to the year, the market saw significant growth in September and October, with year-on-year increases of approximately 30 and 40 per cent respectively. Experts suggest that 2025 records may be surpassed.
Chinese brands achieved a record market share of 22.5 per cent in October. Tesla led the market with 1,548 units, followed closely by Toyota with 1,493 units. The Tesla Model Y was the top-selling individual model with 1,429 registrations, followed by the Toyota bZ4X with 725 units and the VW ID.4 with 553 units.
The market for non-electric vehicles remains minimal. In October, there were 89 diesel car registrations, 14 petrol cars, 33 petrol plug-in hybrids, and 53 petrol full hybrids. The year-to-date electrification rate for new passenger cars in Norway has reached 98 per cent, compared to 95.2 per cent during the same period in 2025.
