Nolla Health has launched a pilot program in Utah that allows users to obtain acne treatment prescriptions generated by an AI system. The process involves scanning a user's face through the company's mobile application, which then analyzes the severity of the condition to determine the appropriate medication.
The service is currently limited to Utah residents aged 18 and older who suffer from mild-to-moderate acne. The subscription for this service is priced at $4.99 per month. The startup's AI is capable of prescribing eight different types of skin treatments.
The company is implementing a phased approach to physician oversight. For the first 100 patients, two doctors will review every prescription. This requirement shifts for the next 500 patients, after which physicians will audit at least 10 percent of monthly prescriptions, alongside any cases involving side effects.
Nolla Health states that it is the first company in the United States to issue initial prescriptions via AI, distinguishing its service from other local programs that only allow for medication renewals. If the system cannot determine a treatment, it directs the user to a doctor.
