Security researcher Sammy Hajhamid has announced a jailbreak for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. The exploit, named NS2JB, functions on the current firmware version 23.0.1 and does not require any physical hardware modifications or opening the device casing.
To demonstrate the exploit, Hajhamid modified the game Mario Kart World to include custom characters such as Peter Griffin, Hatsune Miku, and Cinnamoroll. He shared video evidence of the gameplay on his X social media account and detailed the development process in his personal blog.
The exploit leverages security vulnerabilities within the SmileBASIC application and the console's system software to execute arbitrary code. Hajhamid utilized OpenAI Codex to assist in identifying these vulnerabilities and developing the necessary code.
The current implementation is not a full system jailbreak. It requires a connection to a computer to function and must be re-activated after every console reboot. It does not grant complete control over the Nintendo Switch 2 operating system.
The source code for the exploit has been published on GitLab. While the current version is primarily intended for developers, it serves as a foundation for the enthusiast community to build more advanced tools for the platform.
