British battery materials developer Nexeon has successfully closed a £100 million investment round. The funding includes a contribution of £52.6 million from the UK National Wealth Fund, with additional participation from the Korea Development Bank and Honda Xcelerator Ventures.
The capital will be directed toward expanding Nexeon's domestic operations in the UK. Specifically, the company plans to establish a pilot manufacturing facility, enhance its advanced manufacturing technology unit, and support ongoing research and development activities.
Nexeon specializes in silicon-based anode materials designed to improve lithium-ion battery performance, including energy density and charging speeds. The company also operates a large-scale production site in Gunsan, South Korea, which supplies materials for Panasonic's battery plant in Kansas.
The investment aligns with the UK National Wealth Fund's strategy to bolster the domestic EV supply chain and foster economic growth. According to Nexeon CEO Dr. Scott Brown, the funding confirms the strategic importance of the company's technology in the global battery sector.
