The Russian Ministry of Digital Development has established a task force to mandate multi-level security measures for data centers against drone attacks. These requirements apply to all existing, under-construction, and planned facilities regardless of ownership.

Data centers are categorized into three tiers based on criticality: K1 for strategic state functions, K2 for regional and industry systems, and K3 for corporate infrastructure. Security protocols include physical reinforcement, radio-electronic warfare systems, and anti-drone netting.

Operators are required to coordinate with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the National Guard. A centralized situational center will be established to manage responses and facilitate infrastructure protection.

Experts estimate that implementing these security measures will take between six months and a year. The associated costs are expected to increase service prices by 5% to 10%, independent of existing inflationary pressures and high interest rates.

Recent incidents include drone attacks on five Russian data centers since October 8, 2026, affecting facilities owned by Yandex, Sberbank, and VK. These disruptions have impacted various services relying on these cloud capacities.
