NASA has released a detailed mosaic image of the Moon's farside, captured by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The image provides a high-resolution view of the lunar surface, showing features at a scale of 100 meters per pixel.
The final mosaic was constructed from over 15,000 individual images. These photographs were collected by the orbiter's wide-angle camera during a period spanning from November 2009 to February 2011.
The farside of the Moon exhibits a rough, heavily cratered surface, which contrasts with the smoother, dark lunar maria found on the nearside. Scientists attribute this difference to a thicker crust on the farside.
