The Triangulum Galaxy, also known as Messier 33 or the Pinwheel Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy located in the northern constellation Triangulum. It spans more than 50 000 light-years in diameter and ranks as the third-largest member of the Local Group, following the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way.

Situated approximately 3 million light-years from the Milky Way, M33 is considered a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy. Telescopic observations reveal blue star clusters and pinkish star-forming regions within its spiral arms. Notably, the NGC 604 region is identified as the brightest area of star formation in the galaxy.

Astronomers utilize the variable stars within M33 to determine distance scales across the universe. NASA has also announced that its Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) website is transitioning from its previous address at apod.nasa.gov to a new location at science.nasa.gov/apod.
