Elon Musk has reached a settlement regarding two lawsuits filed in Austin, Texas, concerning his 2024 voter sweepstakes. The initiative promised a daily prize of $1 million to randomly selected registered voters in swing states, which triggered legal scrutiny over its legitimacy.
The plaintiffs alleged that the lottery was fraudulent, claiming they would not have signed the required petition had they known the selection process was not random. They further accused Musk and his America PAC of using the sweepstakes as a mechanism to harvest user data without clear limitations on its future use or sale.
The legal controversy intensified when Philadelphia’s District Attorney attempted to halt the giveaway, labeling it an illegal lottery. During court proceedings, America PAC representative Chris Gober admitted that recipients were not chosen by chance, stating that the organization knew in advance who would be announced as winners.
