Elon Musk stated in a podcast interview with Walter Isaacson that his efforts to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) failed to achieve their goals. Musk concluded that attempting to resolve the US national debt through internal government spending cuts is ineffective because officials lack the political will to reduce expenditures.
Musk identified artificial intelligence and robotics as the only viable solutions to the national debt crisis, arguing that simple cost-cutting measures are insufficient. He noted that while current attempts were unsuccessful, future administrations might leverage advancements in AI to address the fiscal deficit more effectively.
Reflecting on his four-month tenure at the White House, Musk admitted he spent too much time away from his own companies. He expressed regret over the duration of his involvement, suggesting he should have limited his stay to one or two months to focus earlier on his AI initiatives.
Musk acknowledged the allure of being in the Oval Office and witnessing major decision-making processes firsthand. Regarding his appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) where he brandished a chainsaw, he described the event as a strange weekend and declined to provide further details.
