The Starlink satellite internet system experienced speed restrictions that disrupted Ukrainian military operations. According to sources, the decision to throttle the service was issued by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. The limitations, which began in the early hours of October 14, impacted drone missions, reconnaissance, and logistics for Ukrainian forces.
Reports indicate that Musk discussed the matter with Donald Trump prior to implementing the restrictions. Following the public backlash, SpaceX representatives contacted the White House to align their narrative regarding the coordination between the company and the administration. Musk claimed on X that service limits are determined by the US military and the President.
Trump stated on October 19 that he was unaware of who was responsible for the speed limits but expressed an interest in investigating the situation. Some US officials maintain that Musk acted unilaterally. The tension follows Trump's public criticism of Ukraine's attacks on Russian energy facilities, which he linked to rising diesel prices.
