Elon Musk addressed the possibility of merging Tesla and SpaceX during a recent summit. While he did not provide a definitive answer, he noted that the deep collaboration between the two entities makes the prospect worth considering. Musk highlighted the extensive interaction between the companies across multiple levels as a key factor.
Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, confirmed that some employees have already transitioned to xAI to support leadership and engineering roles. She described the business integration process as moving faster than initially anticipated, though she noted that it is not yet complete.
Speculation regarding a potential merger has persisted since June, when Shotwell first publicly acknowledged the possibility. Investors have also pointed to recent updates in SpaceX registration documents concerning the potential issuance of a significant volume of additional shares, which analysts associate with preparations for major corporate actions.
During the second-quarter earnings conference, Musk alluded to a potential merger, citing the growing synergy between Tesla and SpaceX, specifically mentioning the Terafab project. However, he declined to discuss specific deal details, stating that such matters are not appropriate for a quarterly earnings call.
