Elon Musk has announced a plan to distribute SpaceX shares to every child in the United States. Based on the population of 72 million children as of July, this commitment involves 72 million shares, valued at approximately $10.5 billion based on the company's most recent closing price.
Musk indicated that these shares would be distributed directly to the public, potentially utilizing the Trump Accounts investment program. This initiative follows a previous pledge by SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell, who committed over $320 million in company shares to the same program in July.
Simultaneously, AI company Anthropic has pledged to donate 5% of its equity to a new public benefit fund, with plans to increase this by 2% whenever its valuation grows by 50% above a baseline. This fund will focus on the impact of AI on the labor market.
Combined with employee equity pledges, Anthropic aims to commit roughly 20% of its stock to charitable causes. The company has previously allocated $200 million toward external research initiatives related to AI labor market impacts.
