MTS has launched a QR-code payment service for Russian users in South Korea through its My MTS application. The system operates on the national Zero Pay infrastructure, allowing payments at any retail location displaying the Zero Pay logo, ranging from small businesses to large retail chains.
Users can access the feature via the Money tab in the My MTS app or by using a shortcut menu on the app icon. The service supports payments from both mobile account balances and Russian bank cards. Transactions are processed in Russian rubles with currency conversion to South Korean won at the current rate.
The service allows transactions up to 400,000 RUB. Payments under 5,000 RUB do not require SMS confirmation, enabling purchases without an active mobile network connection. The application is accessible to subscribers of any mobile operator, and MTS subscribers can make payments even with a negative balance.
According to Kirill Palchun, head of the Payments and Transfers cluster at MTS, the company aims to expand the geography of its national QR-code payment services. This initiative is designed to simplify payment processes for Russian tourists in South Korea, where QR-based transactions are widely used.
