The rehabilitation trustee for the defunct crypto exchange Mt. Gox has extended the repayment deadline for creditors by one year. The new cutoff date is now set for October 31, 2027, as confirmed by a recent notice from trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi.
While many creditors have already received their funds, a significant number have yet to complete the required procedures. This marks the fourth time the deadline has been postponed, with previous extensions moving the date from 2023 through 2026.
Data from Arkham Intelligence indicates that wallets associated with the Mt. Gox estate currently hold approximately 34,388 BTC, valued at roughly $2,8 billion. No transfers have been recorded from these wallets since June.
The exchange collapsed in 2014 after losing roughly 850,000 BTC. A 2021 court-approved rehabilitation plan aimed to return about $9 billion in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash to approximately 24,000 creditors.
