MoneyGram has expanded its five-year collaboration with the Stellar network, moving beyond simple USDC integration to the launch of its own stablecoin, MGUSD. The company introduced the USD-pegged token in the United States on June 2, 2026, with plans for a subsequent global rollout.
In July 2026, MoneyGram secured a Tier 1 validator position on the Stellar blockchain. This role allows the firm to participate directly in confirming transactions and maintaining the network ledger. The company is now integrating its internal systems with Stellar, including a new in-app digital dollar balance feature.
The partnership, which began in 2021, previously enabled cash-to-USDC conversion services across more than 170 countries by 2022. MoneyGram currently serves approximately 60 million active customers through a network of about 475,000 physical locations worldwide.
The company highlights the accessibility of its stablecoin services in Latin American markets, specifically citing Colombia and El Salvador. Denelle Dixon, CEO of the Stellar Development Foundation, described the launch of MGUSD as a milestone for the integration of blockchain technology into payment networks.
