Moia America, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, has launched passenger testing for its autonomous shuttle fleet in Lake Nona, Orlando. The project is conducted in partnership with the mobility provider Beep, which operates the autonomous vehicles.
The fleet consists of VW ID. Buzz AD models equipped with autonomous driving technology developed by Mobileye. Selected participants can book trips through the Beep application across three fixed routes with designated stops.
These trials mark the first instance of Moia vehicles operating in live traffic with passengers at standard speeds. Trained personnel remain on board during every trip to monitor safety and intervene in the driving process if necessary.
The initiative aims to provide a cost-efficient, AI-driven solution for public transportation rather than individual robotaxi services. Moia America intends to supply Beep with a total of 5,000 autonomous vehicles for its shared mobility network.
