Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, known as MKBHD, has returned to using the iPhone 18 Pro after testing the foldable iPhone Duo for over two weeks. He shared his experience on the Waveform podcast, noting that while the foldable design offers a unique reading experience, it does not fully replace the capabilities of a traditional flagship device.
The primary drawbacks of the iPhone Duo cited by Brownlee include its camera system and biometric authentication. Unlike the iPhone 18 Pro, the foldable model lacks a dedicated telephoto lens, relying instead on digital zoom. Additionally, the device uses a side-mounted Touch ID sensor, whereas Brownlee prefers the convenience and integration of the Face ID system found on the iPhone 18 Pro.
Despite these compromises, Brownlee praised the large internal screen of the iPhone Duo for reading and multitasking. He described his time with the device as a conflicting experience, highlighting the trade-offs between innovative form factors and established hardware standards. He also noted that using a foldable device in public can feel conspicuous.
The transition back to the iPhone 18 Pro underscores the current limitations of foldable technology. Brownlee concluded that while the larger display provides distinct value, it does not compensate for the performance gaps in photography and daily usability. For his specific needs, the traditional flagship remains the more practical choice as a primary device.
