Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of three lightweight applications for Windows 11: Calendar, People, and Files. Support for these tools will officially end on December 16, 2026. These programs were previously pushed to systems linked with Microsoft 365 accounts starting in late 2025.

The company did not disclose the specific reasons for this decision, despite previously promoting the integration of Copilot features into these apps. While the applications will be removed, all user data stored within the Microsoft 365 cloud will remain intact and accessible through other services.

Automatic installation of these apps has already ceased. However, they will not be removed automatically from existing systems. Home users can uninstall them manually, while corporate administrators must perform manual removal and configure Intune to prevent further deployment.

Microsoft suggests that users transition to Outlook and Teams for calendar and contact management. For file access, the company recommends using File Explorer, SharePoint, OneDrive, or the Windows search bar. The Copilot assistant remains available for quick information retrieval.

With the support deadline approaching in a few weeks, Microsoft has confirmed that no further security updates will be released for these three applications.
