Microsoft is focusing on restoring several classic desktop interaction features that were removed during the transition to Windows 11. The company is shifting development resources to refine the core desktop experience and port missing features back into the modern code framework.
Key updates will focus on the taskbar. In addition to the already returned 'do not combine taskbar labels and show text labels' feature, Microsoft is working on taskbar size adjustment options and exploring native customization for taskbar docking edges and popup logic.
The company also plans to reintroduce classic folder classification logic for the Start menu, a more efficient small icon mode, and advanced system adjustment switches that were lost during the migration from the old Control Panel to the new Settings app.
