Microsoft is pivoting Windows 11 toward an agentic operating system, focusing on hybrid intelligence that enables local execution of AI models. This shift aims to reduce reliance on cloud-based processing and associated token costs for developers and creators.
The strategy centers on the new Surface Laptop Ultra, which features Nvidia RTX Spark chips. This hardware is designed to support local AI models exceeding 120 billion parameters. Similar devices are also being released by partners including Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and MSI.
Pricing for the Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599, with high-end RTX Spark configurations reaching up to $6,999. These premium models offer up to 128GB of unified memory, targeting users who require significant local computational power.
Beyond hardware, Microsoft introduced a redesigned Windows Search interface. The updated UI provides in-line results and functions as a launcher, aiming to improve speed and usability compared to previous versions of the operating system.
