Microsoft has officially released the ISO images for Windows 11 26H2, the major annual update scheduled for the second half of 2026. The x64 installation media is approximately 7.9 GB and includes cumulative updates through September 2026. Microsoft provides both x64 and Arm64 versions, with no 32-bit support available.

For users already running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2, a full ISO download is unnecessary for standard upgrades. Microsoft continues to utilize a small 174 KB enablement package to transition these versions to 26H2 via a single reboot. This method maintains the shared service branch architecture, allowing for efficient version switching.

The full ISO remains essential for clean installs, offline deployments, virtual machine setups, and system repairs. Users can verify the integrity of the downloaded files using SHA-256 hashes. Official download links generated via the Microsoft website are valid for 24 hours, after which a new link must be requested.

Windows 11 26H2 introduces interface refinements, including adjustable taskbar positioning and customizable Start menu sizes. Search functionality has been updated to improve keyword recognition and offer more control over web content suggestions. Enterprise features include enhanced settings backup and local restore point management.

Hardware requirements for 26H2 remain unchanged, necessitating a 64-bit processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, TPM 2.0, and UEFI support. While the update does not require Copilot+ PC certification, specific AI features remain hardware-dependent. The update shifts internal build numbers to 26300.

The release marks a significant milestone for system support lifecycles. Windows 11 26H2 Home and Pro editions are scheduled to receive support until October 2028, while Enterprise and Education editions will be supported until October 2029. This update serves as the primary maintenance version for long-term security.
