The Windows 11 25H2 update introduces several long-awaited features, including a movable taskbar with adjustable height settings, customizable Start menu layouts, and a refined Windows Search that allows for local-only results. Additionally, File Explorer now displays file sizes using standard KB, MB, and GB indicators.
However, the update triggered significant technical issues, including system crashes on PCs equipped with AMD Radeon GPUs and Explorer interface failures. Users also reported problems with audio device configurations, microphone input, and the File History feature, which failed to detect external drives.
Microsoft released an emergency patch to address specific bugs, such as instability in Remote Desktop Services and audio output failures. The update also resolved an issue where HC-managed Linux virtual machines with Plan9 shared folders became nonfunctional due to the Claude Cowork integration.
Owners of HP and Lenovo hardware face additional risks. Reports indicate that the update can cause BIOS corruption on certain HP systems, while Lenovo devices may experience unexpected shutdowns or black screens attributed to power management conflicts.
