Microsoft is currently conducting a pilot program focused on post-quantum cryptography within its Trusted Root Program. The initiative is designed to test Transport Layer Security outside of production and public trust environments to ensure system compatibility.
The project involves collaboration with seven certificate authorities, including DigiCert. These partners are testing issuance and platform compatibility in a controlled setting to address operational constraints before full-scale implementation.
According to Karina Sirota Goodley, senior security product manager at Microsoft, the company aims to build solutions that function across existing infrastructure, protocols, and devices. The focus is on practical interoperability rather than theoretical cryptographic models.
Microsoft emphasizes early coordination with vendors to identify deployment limitations. By aligning on standards-based interoperability, the company intends to reduce complexity for customers during the transition to the quantum era.
