Microsoft has initiated a buyout program targeting 60,000 employees. The offer applies to staff at the vice president level and below, specifically excluding teams working in data centers and sales departments.

The program is available to employees located in the United States, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom. This move follows a previous round of buyouts in July, which targeted 8,750 retirement-age staff, with over 30% of those eligible accepting the offer.

Despite ongoing workforce adjustments, Microsoft's total headcount has remained stable at approximately 223,000 since 2022. In July, the company also announced the elimination of 4,800 roles, representing 2.1% of its global workforce.

The company's leadership attributes these organizational changes to shifting customer needs and evolving business models. Over the past year, Microsoft has also redeployed 4,000 employees into new internal roles to align with these strategic priorities.
