Microsoft is expanding its Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) technology to support Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards and the RTX Spark platform. The tool aims to reduce initial game load times and minimize stuttering by providing pre-compiled shaders during game installation.
Previously, ASD was exclusive to AMD RDNA architectures (1 through 4) and Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 series processors. Later this month, support will extend to Intel Arc B570 and B580 cards, as well as Intel Core Ultra Series 2 and Series 3 integrated graphics.
In the game Gears of War: E-Day, Microsoft reported a 95% reduction in shader compilation time. However, independent testing by TechPowerUp noted that the technology did not function as expected in practice, with full compilation still occurring on AMD hardware despite using compatible drivers.
To utilize ASD, users must run Windows 11 24H2 or later. AMD systems require Adrenalin driver version 26.6.1 or newer, while Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 platforms require version 2026.08.3 or newer. Specific requirements for Intel and Nvidia hardware have not yet been disclosed.
