Microsoft recently addressed concerns regarding Windows 11 security, stating that the system's integrity has not declined due to AI. Nuno Costa, Director of Windows Service and Delivery Partners, emphasized that the increase in identified vulnerabilities is a result of more advanced scanning capabilities.

Data from the October 2026 Patch Tuesday shows that Microsoft fixed 1,413 CVE vulnerabilities, with over 1,100 related specifically to Windows. This figure marks a significant rise compared to the 134 vulnerabilities reported during the same period last year.

The company explains that AI tools now allow for deeper and larger-scale code analysis, uncovering flaws that previously went unnoticed. While AI aids defenders in patching systems, Microsoft warns that attackers also use these technologies to analyze code and exploit vulnerabilities shortly after patches are released.

Microsoft now advises businesses against delaying monthly updates for more than three days. Internal data reveals that less than half of enterprise devices are updated within two weeks of a patch release. The company stresses that timely installation is critical to mitigate the risk of known vulnerabilities being weaponized by AI-driven threats.
