Microsoft has expanded its Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) technology to Copilot+ PCs equipped with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. Previously, the feature was limited to devices running on Qualcomm Snapdragon X series chips.

Auto SR is integrated directly into Windows 11 and utilizes the device's NPU to upscale game resolution via AI models. This allows games to render at lower resolutions, reducing the load on the GPU while maintaining high visual quality.

The technology currently targets a frame rate of 60 FPS, with future plans to support 90 FPS and 120 FPS. On Intel platforms, it supports input resolutions ranging from 800p to 1080p.

In testing with Assassin's Creed Shadows on an Intel Arc B390 GPU, enabling Auto SR allowed for higher graphical settings at a 1600p output resolution while maintaining a frame rate comparable to running at low settings.

Auto SR supports games using DirectX 10 and higher, including titles like Control and Avowed. Microsoft recommends using game-specific solutions like DLSS or FSR if available, positioning Auto SR as a fallback for titles lacking native upscaling.

To use the feature, users must have a compatible Copilot+ PC with updated Windows 11, graphics, and NPU drivers. The necessary components are available for download via the Microsoft Store.
