Microsoft has initiated a program targeting inactive Xbox Series X and Series S owners, encouraging them to trade in their consoles at Best Buy. The company confirmed the authenticity of these emails, which suggest users can receive up to $375 for their devices. This initiative aligns with the trade-in strategy announced by Microsoft in June.

The trade-in value is tiered based on the model and condition. A Series X in good condition with all accessories can fetch up to $375, while the Series S is valued at a maximum of $200. Compensation is provided exclusively in the form of Best Buy eGift cards. Currently, the campaign is restricted to the United States.

This effort follows recent price adjustments that raised the cost of the 1 TB Series X to $799.99 and the 512 GB Series S to $499.99. Market data from Circana indicated that US hardware sales reached record lows by August. Meanwhile, new console availability remains limited across several international regions.

While the program offers a convenient trade-in process, market comparisons suggest potential drawbacks for users. Used Xbox Series X consoles have recently traded for over $500 on secondary platforms like eBay. Additionally, industry analysts anticipate that the upcoming November release of GTA 6 will further strain existing retail inventory.
