Microsoft has officially launched its disc-to-digital service for all Xbox users following a brief testing period. The feature allows owners of Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles to link the digital license of a physical game disc to their Microsoft account.

Once the conversion process is complete, the digital version functions identically to a store-bought copy, including support for Xbox Play Anywhere features. Users can transfer game licenses between consoles, though the physical disc remains a transferable asset.

The service does not cover every game title. Compatibility depends on the game publisher and the specific production batch of the disc. If a publisher has not enabled digital licensing, the system will display a license unavailable error.

During the preview phase, Microsoft expanded the list of participating publishers to include Ubisoft and Sega. However, major industry players such as Bandai Namco and Square Enix have not yet extended support for this digital conversion feature to their physical game releases.
