Microsoft has released an emergency out-of-band update to address technical issues introduced by the September patch Tuesday release. The previous update, which addressed nearly 1,000 vulnerabilities, caused errors for users of Hyper-V-based Linux virtual machines, Remote Desktop Services, and certain USB audio devices.
The new patch covers Windows 11 versions 26H1, 25H2, and 24H2. Additionally, Microsoft provided fixes for Windows Server 2025 and 2022, Windows 10 LTSC, as well as Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. These updates aim to resolve stability problems reported by businesses, developers, and gamers following the initial deployment.
The frequency of such emergency releases has increased throughout the current year. Microsoft previously issued four out-of-band updates in January, two in March to address installation and sign-in errors, and one in July to fix Intel driver performance and battery drain issues.
